Roger Overturf

roger-overturf.jpg Roger is a seasoned communications, public affairs, media and public relations professional who has designed, led, and successfully executed programs aimed at maximizing the effective dissemination of information. He is especially effective in representing his clients’ key positions, and developing, nurturing and maintaining open and constructive relationships with local, state and national media as well as decision makers, legislators, and policy makers from both the public and private sectors.

Roger’s diverse professional background includes a distinguished career as a senior Public Affairs officer in the United States Air Force where he directed the communications and media relations activities of such diverse commands as the Coalition Press Information Center at the Headquarters of the Peace Implementation Force (IFOR) in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzogovina in 1996, the US Press Office of the Allied Forces Central Europe headquartered in Brunssum, the Netherlands during 1991 and 1992, and the Public Affairs office of the Joint Task Force for Full Accounting (JTFFA) at Camp Smith, Hawaii from 1992 until 1995. In the latter post, he regularly provided briefings to senior military and government officials, including the President of the United States, regarding the status of MIAs and KIAs in Vietnam. His military career also included three years as the Director of Public Affairs at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio from 1995-1998 and a stint as an Associate Professor of Public Affairs at the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana from 1986-1991. He was named the Air Force ROTC Instructor of the Year in 1986.

Following retirement from the Air Force, Roger accepted the position of Director of Public Relations at his alma mater, Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. He managed the University’s transition from Cedarville College to Cedarville University and directed the institution’s internal and external communications. His responsibilities included oversight of the University’s publications, media contacts, communications with employees, staff, alumni, and other university stakeholders as well as representation of the University with state and local government officials. He was named Communicator of the Year by the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) in 2005. He also served as Manager of Corporate Media Relations at NCR in Dayton in 2006 before establishing himself as a consultant with clients such as TechTeam Global, BTAS, Inc. and Morgan Borszcs Consulting, where he serves as Solutions Architect and Communications Consultant. He is also an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University.

A graduate of Cedarville, he also holds a Master of Arts degree in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University. A licensed pilot, Roger is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Air Force Public Affairs Alumni Association, Public Relations Society of America, the International Association of Business Communicators, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club.
